Toowoomba Second Range Crossing
The Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) is a 41km-long crossing, connecting the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east with the Gore Highway at Athol in the west, via Charlton in Queensland. The $1.6 billion dollar project, initiated by the Australian and Queensland governments, is a significant piece of infrastructure, improving freight efficiency and re-routing heavy vehicles away from the Toowoomba CBD. It’s good for business and safer for drivers.
As a trusted and experienced supplier to many large scale infrastructure projects, Granor was the logical choice to help realise this ambitious vision. In collaboration with project leads, Acciona and Nexus, Granor developed a custom Steel Finger Joint that allowed transverse movement and behaved like a Modular Expansion Joint. A custom profile also helped to ensure a smooth trafficable finish over the joint.
The Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is expected to generate an economic boost of $2.4b over 30 years. Granor’s custom solution significantly reduced costs for the TSRC project; both during the initial construction and in future maintenance costs.
